As we have been previously informed, the Spanish Working group decided to included Oesophageal Doppler Monitoring as a basic step of its Fast Track protocol, and our preliminary data support this decision. In this regards, we have to mention that the National Technology Adoption Centre (NTAC) has been conducting an audit using Oesophageal Doppler Monitoring in three centres across the UK and in total 1200 patients were audited.
Today they have published the results of this audit and also recommended wide scale implementation of ODM across the NHS. To provide hospitals with all of the information they need to adopt ODM they have published a How To Why To (H2Y2) guide on implementing ODM.
The results of the audit on 1200 patients showed a 67% reduction in mortality, 33% reduction in re-admission rate, 25% reduction in re-operation rate and a 3 day reduction in length of stay.
